I wanted to post just a few verses from the Psalms that I find incredibly helpful or encouraging, as a wife and mom and I wanted to share them with you. In some cases I’ll tell you in what way they help me, others I’ll just let you figure it out. In case you’re wondering most of this is from the New Living Translation.
I frequently pray this one over my little ones and my family.
“I lay down and slept yet I woke in safety, for the Lord was watching over me. I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side. “ Psalm 3:5-6
“You have taught children and infants to give you praise, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.” Psalm 8:2
“Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance. “ Psalm 16:5-6
“ Yet you brought me safely from my mother’s womb and led me to trust you at my mother’s breast. I was thrust into your arms at my birth. You have been my God from the moment I was born.”
Psalm 22:9-10
“Our children will also serve Him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord. His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything He has done.”
Psalm 22:30-31
“Who are those who fear the Lord? He will show them the path they should choose. They will live in prosperity and their children will inherit the land. The Lord is a friend to those who fear Him. He teaches them His covenant.” Psalm 25:12-13
Psalm 27. It’s one of my favorites! But especially this part verse8 “My heart has heard you say “Seek my face.” And my heart replies “Lord, your face will I seek.”
“I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul.” Psalm 31:7
“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they may stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. “Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned, or their children begging for bread. The godly give generous loans to others and their children are a blessing.” Psalm 37:23-26
“From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help, when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety for you are my refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings! Psalm 61:2-4
“But let the godly rejoice. Let them be glad in God’s presence. Let them be filled with joy.” Psalm 68:3
“But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “God is great!” Psalm 70:4
This is one I like to pray over my children.
“Yes, you have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb you have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you! My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long.” Psalm 71:6-8
“O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do. Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.” Psalm 71:17-18
“We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about His power and His mighty wonders. For He issued His laws to Jacob; He gave His instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them- even the children no yet born- and they in turn will teach their own children. So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting His glorious miracles and His commands. Then they will not be like their ancestors- stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful refusing to give their hearts to God.” Psalm 78:5-8
“Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young near your altar.”
Psalm 84:3
“For the Lord God is our sun and shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.”
Psalm 84:11-12
